Truncation and wildcards

Truncation and wildcards are used to manage variant spellings and multiple word endings in database searches.  They enable you to substitute a character, usually a *, for an unknown character or multiple characters.  For example:

defibrillat* will find defibrillation, defibrillator and defibrillators
